Koutoku Ren (練 紅徳, Ren Kōtoku) was the Kou Empire's Second Emperor and second husband of the late Empress, Gyokuen Ren.

Appearance[]

Koutoku appears as a rather unimposing, wrinkly man with a long black beard, wearing the royal robes and mian crown formerly worn by his brother.

Personality[]

Not much is known about his personality, but Koutoku seeks strength for his army and yearns for more power. Despite this he is easy to manipulate where Gyokuen Ren took advantage of their nuptial status where, after Koutoku's death, Gyokuen became empress of the Kou Empire.

History[]

Koutoku was the younger brother of the Kou Empire's First Emperor, Hakutoku.

He had ten children, three boys and seven girls, with at least three different women, but currently only five of them are known: Kouen, Koumei, Kouha, Kougyoku and Kourin.

Ten years before the start of the story, his brother and two of his nephews, Hakuyuu and Hakuren, died in a revolt. Koutoku became the Second Emperor since there was no suitable successors to the throne at that moment. He adopted the two surviving children of his brother, Hakuei and Hakuryuu, letting them keep the titles of prince and princess. Koutoku later married his brother's wife, Gyokuen.
